At 5 o’clock in the January freezing morning Paweł Althamer, well known polish visual artist, invited the theatre audience for an excursion to a very unexpected place in Warsaw – the balcony around the clock at the top of Palace of Culture (‘Warsaw Communist Big Ben’). This balcony is at the same time the very center of the city but also an empty hole in the heart of Warsaw, high enough to have total silence and where wild birds have their nests.
Participants of an early trip were supposed to wait for a sunrise. During winter time it is difficult though to spot it behind heavy clouds. Public was given airplane blankets and a cup of coffee to warm them up. A parallel action was taking place in Foksal Gallery Foundation - a couple was having a hard quarrel. She was about to jump out of the window. He tried to prevent. Althamer was seeing the dramatic situation from the Palace of Culture and called the police. A careful observer could follow the whole event through the telescope. Once again the dramaturgy of the action laid in the social energy and creativeness of the public. |
15 January 2006 Actions TR visual artists in the theater / TR Warszawa, 2005/2006 Actions aimed at perceiving different fields of the human activity – contemporary art, business, advertising, sport - through the notion of performativity. Politics, school classes, ceremonies are being staged, even if theatre does not often examines everyday life, its context and cultural impact. AKCJE TR offered an insight into the performativity from the point of view of other social situations. Invited visual artists would blur the distance between art and everyday life. > MILK - TAKE AWAY THEATER | Rafał Betlejewski / Betlej > SLEEPLESSNESS in TR | Anna Baumgart > ALTHAMER TR 1 | > ALTHAMER TR 2 | > VIRUS IN THE THEATER PERFORMANCE | Sędzia Główny / Chief Judge Group > FACES | Katarzyna Kozyra |
